DIGITEL
- We're Y2K Ready!
We
would like to inform you that DIGITEL is now Y2K Ready as defined in
RA8747, the Y2K Disclosure and Readiness Act. DIGITEL has completed
its Y2K remediation and upgrading for its mission critical systems
and has filed its Y2K Disclosure with the Y2K Commission as mandated
for all Philippine agencies.
Since
September 1998, DIGITEL have been closely coordinating internally as
well as externally with our suppliers/vendors and other carriers for
the completion of the Y2K Project.
DIGITEL
can confidently state that there will be no serious interruptions to
its basic telecommunications services (i.e., service and billing)
through the transition into Year 2000 and beyond. We have
successfully conducted inter-carrier testing with several
telecommunications companies.
Due
to the uniqueness of the Y2K issue, we have formulated detailed
contingency plans that will be validated to ensure their
applicability. There are no certainties regarding what will happen
in the upcoming roll-over but rest assured that our contingency
plans will be continuously tested and improved. We are all facing
this problem for the first and probably only time and there are no
assurances that all other services/agencies (i.e., private, public
and government) with whom we are interconnected with or dependent
will be compliant.
Rest
assured that we will keep our services up to your expectations.
This
is in compliance with Republic Act No. 8747 and per Y2K Commission's
Clearance Certificate no. 111899-185.
Very
truly yours,
Brian

DIGITEL started the YEAR
2000 Compliance Project in September 1998. Three Committees were formed to
handle different tasks set by the Project Director.
- The Steering Committee act as
advisers and consultants and responsible for decision making.
- The Working Committee responsible
for analysis and validation of all mission critical systems and
equipment for compliance.
- Testing Committee tasked to
conduct testing and implementation involving the upgrade, replacement
and conversion of mission critical systems and equipment.
There are 4 Phases of the
Y2K project: Inventory phase; Analysis Phase; Action/Validation Phase; and
the Implementation Phase. The Working and Testing Committees have
completed an inventory of all electronic information system (software and
hardware), systems and equipment with date sensitive embedded system. The
purpose of this inventory is to provide a list of resources that support
mission - critical business and operational function, and to collect
detailed information for each of these resources.
Here are the 4 Phases of
the Y2K Project:

The Committees have
identified the companys critical functions and the resources that need
to be corrected and have entrusted these to the Testing and Working
Committees for coordinated action and validation. Digitel has established
a calendar of activities including the implementation timeline for
different aspects of the Y2K Project and assigned the Steering Committee
with responsibility for monitoring progress and ensuring that the schedule
of remediation and testing activities is met. DIGITEL, working closely
with all vendors and other carriers, has obtained, where available,
certification ensuring that they are or will be Year 2000 compliant.
DIGITEL has also
developed a strategy to upgrade, replace and/or convert equipment,
software and hardware that were found not compliant and has identified the
tools available in the market as well as the cost to correct the system.
DIGITEL is currently
updating all facilities and equipment that are time and date related.
DIGITEL aims to complete all necessary conversion and testing to support
correct processing of date and time fields before, during and after the
turn of the century on the 3rd Quarter or early 4th
Quarter of 1999.
