  • Double-click My Computer icon in your Windows 95/98 desktop, then double-click the Control Panel folder.

  • Now look for the Modems icon then double-click it. Then Modems Properties window will appear. Click the Add button. The Install New Modem dialog box will appear as shown below.

  • If you want to select your modem, place a check mark at the Don’t detect my modem, I will select it from a list checkbox. Then click Next. Select now your modem, or you can leave it unchecked and then click Next. It will then automatically detect for your modem. If windows did not detect any modem attached to your computer, it will ask you to select from a list. Then click Next.
  • Select now for your modem and follow instructions in your screen.
  • If there is no modem installed, click the Cancel button and close the active window. Then go to Control Panel. You can either double click My Computer icon and then select the Control Panel folder or click the Start at the taskbar then choose Settings and then Control Panel. Select the Add New Hardware icon. Double-click the Add New Hardware icon and follow the instructions on the screen. If you have problems installing your modem, contact the dealer where you purchased your modem. They should help you install your modem.

  • Double-click My Computer icon on your desktop and then double-click Dial-Up Networking icon.
  • Select the Make New Connection icon then press Enter key or you can double-click it.

  • Type Digitelone at the Type a name for the computer you are dialing box.
    Your modem (which have been configured as explained above) should be shown in the Select Modem area.
  • Then click the Configure button. A dialog box will appear. It contains three main
    menus namely  General, Connection, and Options.
  • In the General menu, select the modem speed to as fast as your modem can handle.
    If you have a 33.6K modem, for example, make the maximum speed 57600. For a 28.8k
    modem the maximum speed is 38400.

Note: Some modems are over rated. If connection fails, use the next lower maximum speed. 

 
  • Remove the check mark at  Only connect at this speed  checkbox. This will
    make your modem connectivity flexible. Actual connection speed varies
    depending on the telephone line condition on each dial-up session.
  • In the Connection menu, leave the default settings as is.
  • In Options menu, check the  Display modem status  checkbox and then click OK.
  • Then click Next. Then click Next again.

  • In the dialog box, supply the following:
  • Telephone number: At the telephone number box write 19003111111.
  • Country code: Select our country code (Philippines 63) in the drop-down list.
    Then click Next and then Finish. Leave the area code blank.

 

  • At the Dial-Up Networking window, click the Digitelone icon you have created. 
  • Right click Digitelone icon. Then select Properties.

 
  • There are three main menus in this dialog box, namely General, Server Types and Scripting.
  • In General, remove the check mark in Use country code and area code checkboxes.
  • In Scripting, leave the default settings as is but make sure that  there is a check mark at the
    Start terminal screen minimized.
  • In Server Types, check only the Enable Software Compression checkbox. Remove
    the check marks at the checkboxes of Log on to Network and Require encrypted password.
    Remove also the check marks at the NetBEUI and IPX/SPX. However, make sure that
    there is a check mark at TCP/IP checkbox.
  • Select TCP/IP settings. Your screen will look like this:

 
  • Leave the radio button at the Server assigned IP address.
  • Leave the radio button at the Server assigned name server addresses.
  • Click OK. This will bring you back to the previous dialog box window.
  • Then click OK again.
  • You are now ready to connect to the Internet.

 

To Connect

  • Double-click the My Computer icon. Then double-click the Dial-up Networking icon.
    Click Digitelone icon. The choice is yours whichever is best suited for your telephone system.
  • The dialog box as shown below will appear.

         
  •  Type digitelone as  your User name. Leave the Password blank. Then press Connect button.
  • When connected to the internet, the dialog box will automatically minimized to the lower right corner of the taskbar appearing as an icon. If you double-click this icon at the taskbar, a dialog box similar to the one shown below will appear at your desktop.
  • You are now connected to the Internet via Digitelone

 
  •  Important: You must disconnect your modem as soon as you are done with the Internet.

To disconnect

Double-click the Dial-up icon at the lower right corner at the taskbar beside the time and
date settings. The icon will be maximized and the same dialog box shown in Figure 10 will
appear. Click Disconnect button to end your Internet session.
