Gateweway Cyber Café To Debut Soon By Aries Palabrica DIGITEL will bring its Internet business one step further by putting up a chain of Internet Cafes nationwide. Beginning September 2001, the very first DIGITEL cyber café will open at the 2nd floor of the Vega Mall in Los Bańos, Laguna. The site is situated right beside the University of the Philippines, the largest educational institution in the province. The new chain of cyber cafes will be known as the "DIGITEL Gateway Cyber Café". A project of the Cyber Café Operations Group headed by Eric de Jesus, the cyber cafes will offer a host Internet related services such as surfing, e-mail, Internet relay chat, games transfer protocol network gaming and communication services such as printing, scanning and desktop publishing. To make a visit to the Gateway Cyber Café even more enjoyable, snacks and drinks will be sold to patrons. "DIGITEL's Gateway Cyber Café will be everyone's "one-stop-communication and information access center," Eric explained. There will also be value added services such as coffee shop, Internet training for beginners and advanced levels from system trouble shooting to web page hosting. Each DIGITEL cyber café will initially have 20 seats. All the computers in Gateway are equipped with branded Intel Pentium III 800 mhz processor, 256 MB memory and a 10 GB hard disk drive to add more power and speed to the machine. The café also features 17" colored monitors for all the workstations and headsets for privacy. With all these advanced technology that Gateway has to offer, a surfer would really feel the rush of speed and power of seismic proportions. Gateway's Objectives By end of Year 2001, the target is to put up 10 Digitel Gateway Cyber Café branches that would be located in strategic and highly accessible sites in major cities throughout Luzon. Already Batangas City and two of the towns in Cavite have been identified as future sites. Eventually, Gateway will expand its business to the Visayas and Mindanao. Gateway's goal is to become the preferred cyber café in the country.
